The Orphan Fawn - Oil on Canvas, 28 x 20 Inches

The idea for this painting came from watching a motherless fawn cross our property overt the summer. I spent a lot of time watching him and trying to get a photo. I finally snapped a reference image from my studio window just as the fawn heard me and rose up on guard.

I captured this lonely creature, probably not long for this world, in the light of the setting sun. Later I found him in the forest, after eagles led me there, and buried him.

I paint because I need to sit with something that can't be handled in words, and this painting is the result of that process.
